Every day I mail an original haiku on a handcrafted postcard to someone selected at random. I also pose, photograph, and post the card daily on Instagram and my own haikuandy web site. If you want me to send you one, see the link at the bottom.
Getting back into the daily haiku groove, I realize I’ve forgotten how much fun — and how much work — this project is.
Sometimes I wonder why I don’t just submit haiku to journals and contests like everyone else. (And I would if putting my haiku out there in this way didn’t disqualify them as ‘published’ by most standards.)
Writing the haiku is just part of it. I love crafting the postcards, applying my chop, then slipping the haiku into the mail, and anticipating the recipient’s reaction.
Bashō had his narrow road to the interior, and this is mine. I might as well own it.
Here are this week’s haiku, and where they were headed.

Now if you’ll excuse me, those haiku aren’t gonna write themselves. See you next week.
